Every good gift, every perfect gift, comes from above…
James 1:17 says Every good gift, every perfect gift, comes from above.
And goes on to say – These gifts come down from the Father, the creator of the heavenly lights, in whose character there is no change at all.
I am reminded that God is a constant, loving gift in my life.
In order to see life as a gift from God, I have to keep my eyes and ears open.
I have to open my eyes to the wonder around me
and say thank you for the beautiful flowers, the dancing stars,
the grass that somehow-miraculously is still green this late in the summer.
I have to open my ears to notice the gift
when someone says a simple thank you.
And of course I love to hear the best gift of all –
a whispered “I love you” from God Almighty.
“I love you” whispers God as the wind blows and the day cools off ever so slightly.
“I love you” whispers God as the dog follows me – everywhere I go.
“I love you” whispers God as the sun shines through the window slowly waking me up.
“I love you” whispers God as my family shares stories from the day.
“I love you” whispers God
in all sorts of ways
and all of them
A Perfect Gift!

Help me to make new friends and have fun.
Watch over me God
until the school year is done.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Put on the whole armor of God…
Ascension’s Cross and the shield of faith by Caelan – August 2012
Ephesians 6:10-20 talks about putting on the whole armor of God. The picture above is a portrait of the shield of faith. In the middle is the cross.
The cross is a reminder of faith. Not just for us to be faithful to God but that God is faithful to us. Every time we look at the cross we are stronger – reminded that Jesus loves us – now and forever.
The next time you are in church, look up at the cross. Give thanks for Jesus and the beautiful reminder of faith that we are indeed loved!
Speak to each other with songs of love; and make music to God in your hearts…
Ephesians 5:19-20 Singing Spiritual Songs…
… speak to each other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; sing and make music to the Lord in your hearts; always give thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…
The New Testament reading for this coming Sunday August 19 is Ephesians 5:15-20. It is so simple – be wise, don’t be foolish – speak to each other with songs of love and give thanks to God and when you do so your life is a love song to God.
Beautiful isn’t it? Our children are gifted at singing songs of love. Listen when they play -humming tunes to their toys, singing along with the radio, and finding new songs to celebrate their life. Trust that in this music they are teaching all of us to live wisely. They are reminding us to sing what is truly in our hearts – pure thanks, pure joy, pure love.

Here is the verse to learn for this week. One of my favorites! Imitate God because we are His children and don’t forget to share the love of Jesus Christ every day of our lives!!!
Imitate God, as dearly loved children, and always be loving, as Jesus Christ loved us and gave himself for us. Ephesians 5:1-2
Dear Loving God in heaven above,
Thank you for the people I love –
for mommy, daddy, and brother too.
Help us to grow in love with you.
Help us to grow in love with each other.
Thank you God for mommy, daddy, and brother.
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Angels watch me through the night,
And wake me with the morning light.
God is Great, God is Good,
Let us thank Him for our Food.
By His hands we are fed,
Thank You God for Daily Bread.
